                                                  -Sample read- Chapter 1

I bought that book and many others I found over the years.  I collected posters–over 50 in all–from every place I could find them.  I  received Lamborghini memorabilia as birthday presents from my family.  My brother-in-law always liked to draw my name during Christmas because I was so fun to shop for.  I would find even some co-workers would leave little Lamborghini trinkets on my desk.  I started reading Road & Track and Car and Driver to capture insights of writers who made me feel as if I was in the cockpit, turning the key and lighting up that  fabled 12-cylinder of an engine!   It was a fun filled escape to imagine what it would be like hitting redline on the tach, reaching for the next gear, hanging on every word the authors so cleverly chose.  For the time being, that was as close as I was going to get to really driving one, and I was fairly  content with that.  I knew deep down I would eventually own a Lamborghini; I just didn’t know how.

BULL IN THE BASEMENT RECOMMENDS:
I recommend these products for no other reason than from my personal experience with these individuals that share the same passion.

I highly recommend Fournier Enterprises. Ron Fournier has everything you would ever need to learn the mystical art of metal forming. From books, for which he is the author, to basic hand tools; hammers, slappers, dollies, English Wheels to you name it, Ron has it. He even holds work shops on the subject for the "hands on experience". It is one stop shopping for the beginner to the professional. Check his website out below. If Ron or Nicole asks, tell them Ken sent you!

METAL FABRICATOR'S HANDBOOK by Ron Fournier

This book I literally wore out the pages I read it so many times. By far the best book on metal forming and fabricating. A must have reference for anyone interested in working with your hands  or for someone interested in seeing what can be done with sheet metal. Ron is the master and still teaches the art today.

SHOP CLASS AS SOULCRAFT by Matthew B. Crawford

A philosopher / mechanic destroys the pretensions of the high-prestige workplace and makes an irresistible case for working with one’s hands.

Shop Class as Soulcraft brings alive an experience that was once quite common, but now seems to be receding from society: making and fixing things. Those of us who sit in an office often feel a lack of connection to the material world, a sense of loss, and find it difficult to say exactly what we do all day. For anyone who felt hustled off to college, then to the cubicle, against their own inclinations and natural bents, Shop Class as Soulcraft seeks to restore the honor of the manual trades as a life worth choosing.

On both economic and psychological grounds, Crawford questions the educational imperative of turning everyone into a “knowledge worker,” based on a misguided separation of thinking from doing, the work of the hand from that of the mind. Crawford shows us how such a partition, which began a century ago with the assembly line, degrades work for those on both sides of the divide.

But Crawford offers good news as well: the manual trades are very different from the assembly line, and from dumbed-down white collar work as well. They require careful thinking and are punctuated by moments of genuine pleasure. Based on his own experience as an electrician and mechanic, Crawford makes a case for the intrinsic satisfactions and cognitive challenges of manual work. The work of builders and mechanics is secure; it cannot be outsourced, and it cannot be made obsolete. Such work ties us to the local communities in which we live, and instills the pride that comes from doing work that is genuinely useful. A wholly original debut, Shop Class as Soulcraft offers a passionate call for self-reliance and a moving reflection on how we can live concretely in an ever more abstract world.

These die cast Countach models are getting harder to find especially the LP400 version (white). The red one here is the Walter Wolfe model, the start of the LP400S with wheel arches and wing. The most common you will find is the LP500S my favorite.(white). All in 1:18 scale. If you really are a collector, the LP400 in 1:12 scale is no doubt the ultimate collectible (yellow). I don't even have one of these.
